The Denture Process
While each denture journey is unique, below are the stages you should expect when getting dentures or partials
The doctor will take several impressions and measurements of your mouth. Your new dentures or partials will be made based on these. These steps are important to ensure that your new dentures or partials fit well and are comfortable in your mouth.
2. Choosing New Teeth
You can work with Dr. Shults to choose new teeth that are the ideal color, shape and position for you. You may want to ask a trusted friend or family member to help you in this selection process.
3. Tooth Extraction and Denture Fitting
Talk to Dr. Shults about the tooth extraction and fitting processes, and be sure to discuss any concerns. Before the extraction appointment, try to relax and get a good night's sleep. If possible, arrange for a friend or family member to accompany you to the appointment.
After your new dentures or partials are placed in your mouth for the first time, additional adjustments may be necessary to ensure your dentures fit well. The structure of your mouth my change slightly over time as a result of your dentures and partials. This is completely normal. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you feel that you need an adjustment.
5. Regular Dental Visits
With proper care, your denture or partial should last for several years, but you should still visit the office for regular check-ups and oral cancer screenings. If you have a partial, you'll want to receive regular check-ups and cleanings to maintain the health of your existing teeth.
